A Proposal: Electric Vehicle Technical Institute Inc.
(Established 2009) [ A “Subchapter S Corp.”](D.B.A.)
Electric Car Service Shop
Hundreds of New Electric Cars are planned or in production! But, no one is offering “After-Market” services, such as;
< Preventive Maintenance, Repair, and Unique Accessories.
< Conversion to Electricity, for present cars,
< Older Hybrid upgrading to “Plug-In”
< Recharging alternatives at the residence, and other locations
We can profit from this industry, Our spot is, “the Forgotten Infrastructure;”
That is: Electric Car SERVICE ! We will train auto mechanics for E.V. Repair,
Initially as: “ELECTRIC CAR SERVICE SHOP,” and expanding into, “EV TECHNICAL INSTITUTE Inc.”
We have the developed concept, the knowledge, and the personnel.
We are seeking a Sales and Marketing oriented Partner - Investor
Our Purpose is to Profit by servicing and repairing EV, ( Electric Vehicles.) We will implement that by training our mechanics how to Build, Convert, Repair, and Service Electric Cars and Hybrids. No one else is teaching EV Repair. There are NO competitors actually Established. We will train experienced professional auto mechanics to work on EVs in a safe and accurate manner while troubleshooting and diagnosing the problems, finding correct replacement parts, and installing them. Providing the Service and Repair service in our shop. And after about nine months we will add the Technical Institute program, in the same building, training non-employees from Florida and beyond, to perform E.V. service and repair in an intensive hands-on six week course for $2,500 Tuition offered in ten separate six week Deci-Mesters each year. The two businesses mesh very well and both generate surprising profits.
No service is available outside of the major dealerships, even tire stores and brake shops are supposed to refuse to work on EV unless their mechanics are certified to perform work on energized wiring and equipment connected to more than 75 Volts. Consider, E.V. use Batteries at 150 to 850 Volts
Consumers always want to have their cars serviced at a convenient shop. Initially we will open a “Proof of Concept Shop” that is a service shop for electric cars and to have competent mechanics we will use an apprenticeship style program to train experienced auto mechanics all they need to know to expand their knowledge for EV. This is Hands On training with each Trainee gaining the knowledge and experience from Hands-On, actual Electric Vehicle Service, Repairs, and Conversions. Also there will be Classes, with Textbooks and Lectures, to explain What, Why, and How, for every aspect of Electric Vehicle Building, Troubleshooting, Repair, and Upgrade or Modification.
About nine months later we will open a Technical Institute to train many more mechanics. Our graduates may work in shops all over the country. Many EV shops are going to need trained EV mechanics. Example: Tesla sold every “Tesla Sports Electric Car” they could produce for $108,000, and Tesla found the lack of service outside of their dealerships to be a major concern, so third quarter of 2009 they started the “Tesla Rangers” to provide service at the customer’s home, including periodic maintenance, and yearly (every 12,000 miles) warranty checks. For customers more than 50 miles from the dealership, a mechanic and helper drive to the customer’s home and service the car there, extra is charged. However they don’t fix problems of other makes of EV.
Multiple Electric Cars are being introduced by Major Automobile Manufacturers and are available for sale NOW. Chevrolet and Nissan sold over 10,000 EV in 2011. Our training market eventually will include mechanics and the entrepreneurs who will open and manage many Small EV Service businesses. That Market includes the Million technicians needed in the next ten years, in the USA, either experienced mechanics or new graduates of mechanics training will want additional training to be competent with EV. Eventually the three million mechanics in the USA and over 90 million more Worldwide will be seeking training such as ours and we will market a home study or Internet distributed course of study worldwide for individuals and other schools training repair and servicing of Electric Vehicles.
Of the 280 million vehicle market under 60 thousand fleet vehicles, electric fork lifts, and hybrids are electric. And the approximate five thousand EV mechanics (haphazardly trained) represent only two tenths of one percent of the million EV mechanics needed in the next ten years, as predicted by the US Department of Transportation. Once we open, because of the lack of viable competition we should be able to grab a large percentage and as the business matures service volume and profits will rise and rise.
Universities teach DESIGN not repair, in Automotive Engineering programs, High Schools teach introductory courses which does not prepare them for employment. Some Conversion shops or EV parts dealers offer a seminar for hobbyists on how to use the parts they sell. And Community Colleges and Vocational Schools need an experienced technician to teach the course, but the field is so new, few are available. Usually it takes ten years for schools to start teaching a new technology.
We want to start NOW and gain the ten year advantage over the Community Colleges and Vocational Schools who are planning to have classes someday.
The Textual Materials: Books, Lessons, Special ‘Snap-On” Tool sets for EV mechanics, are all sold to the students. The apprenticeship course will provide instruction in Classroom some each day, and, Hands-On Training time during which they will complete marketable EV projects such as Motorcycle conversions and car conversions to electric, or to hybrid conversions, 64 different ways, along with several desirable silent off road vehicles. And live work from the community. We will work with anyone, including handicapped, of any race, gender, creed or nationality [must be legal resident or have student visa] to find a successful technique for them to succeed in this business too!
Profits are generated from materials for hobbyists and from sale of the Projects. Which pays entire cost of materials for the project, provides professional experience, and generates additional profits as well. Also repairs or other “Live-Work” from community members (Customers)
Dennis Lee Miles the Founder, is an experienced Adult Vocational Educator, with 20 years of teaching industrial, electrical, and electro-mechanical classes, also he updated and revised many courses, in the two year program. And he backs up that teaching experience with more than 15 years of manufacturing experience; including a startup where he was the Engineering and R&D Manager, and experience as an electronic engineering technician. He has been engaged in Electronics since 1963, but he has worked on cars since 1957 too. We also have an experienced facility manager and ancillary Instructor with education program management experience. Also two nationally recognized EV pioneers, technicians and designers have expressed an interest in consulting or teaching at my facility. And an experienced auto mechanic with excellent public relations skills, I have known for many years, Alland Alan of Mulberry, Florida may join the team also. Lastly I have a former partner (he resigned out of frustration from being unable to raise funding in six months,) but, he can translate technical information into Spanish and has family ties to auto service management in Mexico, Puerto Rico, and other Central and South American Countries, which might give us a possibility of expanding into the Hispanic Market. The smog is so bad in Mexico City and San Paulo that vehicle owners are only allowed to drive four days each week.
